Fifa 94 Second Round

^ Colourful Mexican goalkeeper Jorge Campos, couldn't do much in the penalty shoot-out against Bulgaria. The central Americans -- just as against West Germany in 1986 -- only managed to score once in the shoot-out.

^ Krassimir Balakov played an important role in Bulgaria's success creating openings for the forwards. His playmaking skills helped Stoitchkov become the star he was. This picture is from the second round match against Mexico.

^ Nigeria's strong center-forward Rasheed Yekini gave Italy all sorts of problems, but Maldini -- who had taken over Baresi's place in the center -- managed to keep in quiet.

^ Leonardo is sent off for elbowing Tab Ramos. He was suspended for the rest of the tournament, but could still pick up a WC winner's medal as he had taken part in all previous games leading up this incident.

^ Marc Overmars of Holland challenged by Phelan and Staunton of Ireland in the second round

^ Dennis Bergkamp against Ireland. Gary Kelly is left.

^ Gabriel Batistuta scores from the penalty spot against Romania. Romania recovered and won 3-2 in probably the best match of the tournament.

^ Gheorghe Hagi surrounded by Redondo, Balbo and Basualdo in the best match of the 1994 finals. Hagi was the dominant player and scored one of the goals in the 3-2 second round win.

^ Sweden's Kennet Andersson was one of the unlikely stars of the World Cup and found his name alongside Romario and Roberto Baggio on the topscorer list after the tournament. Who could have predicted that? Here he is tackling a Saudi Arabian player in the match he scored twice.
