France 98 ( Second Round )

^ Overmars trying to get past Petrovic.

^ Gheorge Hagi was one of the stars of the '94 World Cup, but four years later in France, he was only a shadow of his old self. Here battling with Zvonimir Boban.

^ Alessandro Del Piero shielding the ball against Norway's Dan Eggen. The game ended 1-0 to the Italians.

^ Jürgen Klinsmann was still going strong at 34 and delivered a fine World Cup for the ageing German team. Outplayed by Mexico for most of the match, Berti Vogts' men recovered from one goal down to win 2-1. Klinsmann scores the equalizer in the picture.

^ Michael Laudrup was brilliant for Denmark against Nigeria. Okocha and Oliseh are having all sorts of problems dealing with the legendary Dane who ended his career after France 98.

^ Ronaldo is crowded out by the Chilean defence in this South American second round match. Brazil controlled the game early on and won 4-1 with Ronaldo getting two goals in what was arguably his best game of the tournament.

^ Disaster for England. Referee Nielsen sends off David Beckham for his clumsy challenge on Diego Simeone. Gary Neville (12) knows the task of winning is even tougher now.

^ Michael Owen has just scored his famous solo-goal against Argentina and England are 2-1 up already after fifteen minutes. Beckham joins in the celebration.
